Anton Bruckner wrote the same symphony nine times (ten, actually), trying to get it just right. He failed. ~ Better a cruel truth than a comfortable delusion. ~ If America could be, once again, a nation of self-reliant farmers, craftsmen, hunters, ranchers, and artists, then the rich would have little power to dominate others. Neither to serve nor to rule: That was the American dream. ~ The death penalty would be even more effective, as a deterrent, if we executed a few innocent people more often. ~ I feel a ridiculous greed and possessiveness come over me. I want to know it all, possess it all, embrace the entire svene imtimately, deeply, totally, as a man desires a beautiful woman. ~
